Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan is a profound political commitment to turn the tide against a disease that impacts millions. It serves as a cornerstone for a strong European Health Union, aiming to build a more secure and resilient EU. With cancer cases projected to rise significantly by 2035, the mandate for decisive action is more urgent than ever. The CHOICE project is a direct response to this call, strategically designed to ensure that genetic risk no longer leads to inevitable loss, but to empowered, life-saving action through innovation and shared expertise.

Closing the Gap in Early Detection

Early detection through screening is one of the most powerful tools we have to save lives, yet deep inequalities persist across Europe. Currently, the number of at-risk individuals being tested varies drastically between Member States, with breast cancer screening rates ranging from a low of 6% to a high of 90%. This disparity highlights a critical mission for the CHOICE project: to dismantle the barriers of geography and access. By uniting partners from Portugal, Czechia, and Greece, we are working to ensure that a woman’s location does not determine her ability to access life-saving preventive care.

Empowerment Through Precision and Literacy

While the European Beating Cancer Plan sets the ambitious benchmark of offering breast cancer screening to 90% of the eligible population, CHOICE acts as the vital bridge between this high-level target and the individual patient. We believe that screening and prevention only succeed when patients truly understand their options and feel confident in their path forward. By advancing the goal of “health literacy for all,” our project provides the AI-driven insights and clear, evidence-based communication necessary to turn complex medical data into a clear, personalized roadmap for BRCA mutation carriers. By fostering a better-prepared healthcare ecosystem, we are ensuring that European innovation results in a tangible increase in the quality of life and survival rates for women across the continent.
