Virtual patients are computer-based simulations of clinical situations. In CHOICE they have two audiences:
- Healthcare providers use them to practise having decision-making conversations before doing it for real. It’s a way to build confidence with the tools and with how to approach sensitive topics.
- Patients use them as interactive, game-like tools that make it easier to understand what options are available and what the decision-making process might look like.
The simulations draw on culturally adapted content and are designed to reflect the real concerns and knowledge gaps that come up for women with BRCA mutations in different European countries.
The virtual patient tools will be available on this website in English, Czech, Portuguese and Greek. Pilot testing with users is planned for mid-2027, with the final versions expected by November 2027.
